Full Story: The December 2005 copy of the Fusion Capital Partners Private Equity News discusses venture capital and other early stage funding in Canada and states:
"Despite a pretty shaky second half of 2005, the year as a whole turned out to be very strong with 361 Canadian companies reporting raising over $2.22 billion. This compares very favorably to the 240 companies that raised $1.79 billion in 2004.
Looking forward, the downward sloping financing trend that began in June continues to be a concern as we move into 2006, despite the strong December numbers.
……sources of early stage capital are increasingly difficult to find, a situation that is further aggravated by changes in the [Labour Sponsored Investment Funds] arena. It’s going to be interesting to see who steps up to fill this very important [early] stage role, particularly since we have yet to see any substantial organized effort by Canadian angels to fill the funding gap…."
KnowledgeSuites is a private, for-profit, initiative that assists Canadian entrepreneurs by providing know how and space to create better business start-ups. By introducing these start-up companies to angel investors, and facilitating angel investments, KnowledgeSuites is helping to fill the current gap in the availability of early stage capital in Canada.
